About Night Lotus Productions

The vision and goal of Night Lotus Productions is to bring light to the world through creative works, including video, writing, graphics, photography, workshops, music, and our award-winning website of free multimedia spiritual resources at www.nightlotus.com.

Night Lotus Productions is owned by Sharon Janis, who functions as producer, editor, writer, musician and artist at her video-writing-music-graphic studio in Cardiff by the Sea, California.

A university background in film-video and neuroscience evolved into a ten-year immersion in spiritual life at the ashram of Swami Muktananda and Gurumayi Chidvilasananda -- the same ashram path and gurus as in the book and movie Eat Pray Love -- during the 1980's, where Sharon, known by her Sanskrit name "Kumuda," was responsible for producing, scripting, and editing hundreds of videos for meditation centers and followers of the Siddha Yoga path around the world.

After a decade of monastic life, Sharon moved to Hollywood, where she edited and produced some of the most popular television shows of the 1990's, including Disney's Prime Nine News, Candid Camera, Hard Copy, X-Men, and the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

Sharon received numerous local, national, and international awards, including:

From these two life phases -- monastic and Hollywood -- arose Sharon's aspiration to use her skills in a service-oriented company focused on bringing light to the world through creative works: Night Lotus Productions, with an award-winning website that offers free multimedia spiritual resources, including online videos, music, writings, and photos, which daily draws hundreds of international visitors.

Sharon explains: "I was blessed to live for ten years in a rich spiritual environment, while serving in the media departments of the ashram of Muktananda and Gurumayi, where I had access to an abundance of videos, scriptures, and audiotapes of chants and devotional singing by some of the best singers of India, as well as by many simple devotees who had recorded their humble chanting efforts. I had a library filled with good teachings and transcripts of my guru's thousands of talks at my fingertips. I understood how great it is when spiritual teachings are received freely and therefore given freely.

On the Night Lotus Website, I offer the fruits of my own spiritual efforts freely for the benefit of those who find them helpful. You can read about how to bring more spiritual happiness to your life, delve into the profound Kashmir Shaivism philosophy, or read stories from my eclectic journey. You can listen to hundreds of audio files of spiritual scriptures, mantras, chants, and devotional singing from Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, and Sufi traditions. You can play all 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita sung in English; you can also play the entire Diamond Cutter Sutra (The topic of Dalai Lama's talk at Radio City Hall in October 2007) sung in English -- for both scriptures, this is the first time they've been available sung in English to traditional style melodies, and they are available to listen to for free on our website. Website guests can also watch streaming realplayer and flash videos of inspiring documentaries -- including Peace Pilgrim: An American Sage Who Walked Her Talk, the Raul Julia's Hunger Project video, and sacred music concerts."

After leaving Hollywood, Sharon emerged as a published spiritual author, having written Spirituality For Dummies as part of the popular "For Dummies" series, Secrets of Spiritual Happiness, Breakthrough Consciousness, Things That Make You Go Oooommmmm (a book of photo-aphorisms), and other books.
